Cinnamon Bun Breakfast Bowl

My father in-law made this delicious bowl of steel cut oats for us on our last visit there. I enjoyed them so much I went home & made them. Also, I wanted to put the recipe out for you to try.
This would be a GREAT recipe to double in the crock pot when you have company over for the holidays. The delicious smell of cinnamon buns will get their tummies grumbling and they will be amazed at how healthful this amazing breakfast is!

Ingredients:
-4 c water
-1 c steel cut oats
-1 Tbs cinnamon
-1 tsp vanilla extract
-1/3 c raisins
-1/4 c walnuts
-1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
-1 or 2 Tbs maple syrup or agave (optional)

Directions:

-Bring water to a boil. Stir in oats and nuts then the rest of the ingredients.
-Bring back to a boil and stir then set stove to low, cover, and cook for 30-50 mins, stirring occasionally, until the oats are the consistency you like.
– top with a variety of nuts and seeds and almond milk.

Here are some topping ideas:
-shelled hemp seed
– raw sunflower seeds
– raw chopped almonds
-chia seeds
-ground and whole flax seed
– more dried or fresh fruit
– raw pepitas/ pumpkin seeds
– natural fruit preserves
– more cinnamon
– any vegan milk
